Cookie Policy

Overview
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how ASUME B.V. ("ASUME", "we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar storage on asume.ai, docs.asume.ai, and related websites, applications, pages, and services.
This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we process personal data more generally.
Some cookies and similar storage are necessary for our website and Service to work. Other storage is optional and is used only where you have given consent.
We do not use optional analytics cookies before consent. Appearance and language storage are preference storage: they are not written until you pick a theme or language, so we do not ask for a separate opt-in.
Full company details are available in our Legal Notice.
2. What cookies and similar storage are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website or use an online service.
Cookies can help a website or application recognise your device, remember your preferences, keep you logged in, secure your session, understand how the service is used, and improve functionality.
Similar storage may include local storage, session storage, pixels, tags, scripts, SDKs, device identifiers, browser storage, server-side event tracking, and other technologies that store or access information on your device.
In this Cookie Policy, we use "cookies and similar storage" to cover both cookies and those other technologies. Not everything listed here is a cookie.
3. Why we use cookies and similar storage
We use cookies and similar storage to make our website work, remember your cookie choices, remember appearance and language when you set them, understand how visitors interact with the marketing and documentation sites after consent, and comply with legal and security obligations.
Types of cookies
4. Types of cookies and similar storage we use
ASUME uses the categories described below on the public marketing and documentation sites.
The exact items we use may change over time as our website, Service, and providers evolve. Optional analytics cookies are not placed before consent has been given.
5. Necessary cookies and similar storage
Necessary storage is required to operate ASUME, keep it secure, and remember your cookie choices.
This storage does not require consent because it is necessary to provide the website you request. If you block it in your browser settings, we may ask for your cookie choice again.
Theme and language are not necessary storage. They are listed under Preferences in section 6.
| Cookie / similar storage | Provider | Used on | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| asume-consent | ASUME | Website | Stores your cookie consent choice so we can honour it on later visits | 1 year |
6. Preference cookies and similar storage
Preference storage remembers appearance and language. It is not written until you pick a theme or language in the site footer, so we do not force a separate opt-in. Until then the site follows your operating-system appearance and the default language.
| Cookie / similar storage | Provider | Used on | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| asume-appearance | ASUME | Website | Remembers light, dark, or system appearance so the theme does not flash | Until changed (1 year) |
| asume-locale (localStorage) | ASUME | Website | Remembers the interface language | Until changed |
7. Analytics, performance, and diagnostics cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the marketing and documentation sites.
We only set these after you accept analytics in the cookie banner or Cookie settings. They stay off by default. PostHog is hosted in the European Union.
| Cookie / similar storage | Provider | Used on | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `ph_*` | PostHog | Website | Measures how the website is used after you allow analytics. Hosted in the EU. | Up to 1 year |
We do not currently use a separate error-monitoring cookie on the public website.
8. Marketing cookies
We do not currently set marketing, advertising, or retargeting cookies on asume.ai or docs.asume.ai.
If that changes, we will update this table and ask for consent before placing them.
9. Third-party cookies
The only optional third-party technology on the public website is PostHog, used for analytics after consent as described in section 7.
PostHog processes information according to its own privacy and cookie practices, configured by ASUME to use the EU Cloud host.
Consent & legal basis
10. Cookie consent
When required, we ask for your consent before placing optional cookies.
The cookie banner and Cookie settings allow you to accept analytics, reject analytics, review cookies and similar storage by category, change your choices later, and withdraw consent as easily as you gave it.
We do not treat continued browsing, scrolling, silence, inactivity, or pre-ticked boxes as valid consent for optional cookies.
If you reject analytics, you can still use the website. Necessary storage continues to work. Preference storage continues to work only if you have already chosen a theme or language.
11. Changing or withdrawing cookie consent
You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by using Cookie settings in the site footer.
Cookie settings are available here: Cookie settings in the site footer.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.
You can also manage or block cookies and similar storage through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to delete cookies, block cookies, or receive a warning before cookies are stored.
If you block or delete cookies and similar storage, some parts of the website may not work properly. For example, your theme or language may reset, or we may ask for your cookie choice again.
12. Legal basis
Necessary cookies and similar storage are used because they are necessary to provide the website you request.
Preference storage is written only when you choose a theme or language.
For optional analytics cookies we rely on consent.
Where cookies and similar storage involve the processing of personal data, our processing is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
13. Browser signals and Do Not Track
Some browsers offer "Do Not Track" or similar signals.
The public website respects Do Not Track for analytics: if the browser sends a DNT signal, we do not initialise PostHog even if analytics consent was granted.
We will continue to monitor legal and technical developments in this area.
Transfers & retention
14. International transfers
PostHog is configured to use the European Union Cloud host. Some cookie providers may still process personal data outside the European Economic Area.
Where this happens, we use appropriate safeguards where required, such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, transfer impact assessments, or supplementary measures.
More information is available in our Privacy Policy.
15. Retention
Cookies and similar storage are kept for different periods depending on their purpose.
Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser or end your session.
Persistent cookies remain on your device for a defined period or until you delete them.
We aim to keep retention periods no longer than necessary for the relevant purpose. Specific periods are listed in the tables above.
Updates & contact
16. Updates to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time.
When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date shown on the page.
If changes are material, we may provide additional notice, such as through the website or cookie banner.
