Works with
Maintained understanding

Companion is the planned ASUME interface for using maintained company understanding closer to where work is taking place.

Instead of requiring users to move between their current task and the ASUME application, Companion is intended to make relevant understanding available within supported environments, while keeping clear boundaries around when ASUME is active and what information it can access.

Closer to the work

Companion is designed to reduce the distance between understanding a company and using that understanding.

Depending on the environment, available capabilities, and permissions granted, Companion may help users:

CapabilityPurpose
Provide contextSurface relevant company understanding for the work currently being performed.
SuggestIdentify information, questions, or considerations that may be relevant.
PrepareHelp prepare content or next steps using maintained understanding.
WriteAssist with writing using relevant company context.
Ask ASUMEAnswer questions without requiring the user to leave the supported environment.

Companion does not create another version of the company. It works from the maintained understanding ASUME already holds for the workspace.

Understanding follows you

Companion is one expression of a broader ASUME principle: the usefulness of maintained understanding should not depend on keeping every task inside the ASUME application.

A company may be explored in ASUME and later become relevant while someone is preparing a message, reviewing an account, discussing a company with a colleague, or working in another supported environment. Companion is intended to make the relevant parts of that understanding available at that point without reconstructing the company from the beginning.

The work can move between environments. The underlying understanding remains maintained by ASUME.

Boundaries

Companion is not intended to continuously observe everything a user does.

Its design should make clear:

  • when Companion is active;
  • which context it can access;
  • which company understanding it can use;
  • what information is sent to ASUME;
  • which actions require the user to initiate or approve them.

Access to Companion does not automatically grant ASUME access to the surrounding environment. Any information Companion can use remains subject to the permissions, connections, and controls available to the user and workspace.

Because Companion is planned rather than currently available, its final capabilities and supported environments may change as the interface is developed.
